This May the Chinese government finally relented to mounting pressure and raised artificially low gasoline prices. Government officials raised the price of gasoline to 500 Yuan, or $62.40, per ton and, while a jump for Chinese consumers, the new price is still well below those of the international market which is dominated by the current high cost of crude oil at $70 per barrel.
