In a significant move to bolster regional connectivity, Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced on Wednesday an ambitious expansion of its Cebu network hub. The airline will introduce a brand-new Cebu-Catarman route and increase the frequency of its popular Cebu-Siargao flights, further solidifying its commitment to enhancing inter-island travel and supporting tourism and economic growth across the Philippines.

 New Cebu-Catarman Route
Beginning March 1, PAL will launch a three-times-weekly service connecting Cebu with Catarman City, the capital of Northern Samar. Catarman is a vital commercial and educational center in Eastern Visayas, and the new route is expected to provide a significant boost to travel and trade between the two regions. The service will offer residents of Samar easier access to Cebu, while also opening up new opportunities for Cebuanos to explore the cultural and natural attractions of Northern Samar.

 Increased Cebu-Siargao Flights
In addition to the new route, PAL will expand its Cebu-Siargao flight schedule by adding midmorning services on Wednesdays and Sundays. This increase will bring the total number of weekly flights between Cebu and Siargao to 18, catering to the growing demand for travel to the island. Known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, Siargao is famed for its world-class waves, pristine beaches, white sand islets, and hidden lagoons, making it a must-visit destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.

Strengthening Inter-Island Connectivity
Rabbi Ang, President of PAL Express, highlighted the airline’s dedication to improving connectivity and supporting regional development. “With the introduction of the Cebu-Catarman route, we are proud to provide a vital link between these two dynamic regions. This new service will not only make travel more convenient for residents and visitors but also foster stronger economic and cultural ties,” Ang said.

He added, “The increased frequency of our Cebu-Siargao flights reflects our commitment to meeting the growing demand for travel to this iconic destination. By enhancing our Cebu hub services, we aim to boost tourism, stimulate business, and create more opportunities for communities across the Philippines.”

A Boost for Tourism and Economic Growth
The expansion of PAL’s Cebu hub is expected to have a positive impact on local economies, particularly in Catarman and Siargao. Improved air connectivity will make it easier for tourists to explore these destinations, while also facilitating the movement of goods and services. The new routes and additional flights align with the Philippine government’s efforts to promote domestic tourism and strengthen inter-island trade.

As PAL continues to expand its network, the airline remains focused on providing reliable and convenient travel options for passengers. The new Cebu-Catarman route and enhanced Cebu-Siargao flights are just the latest examples of PAL’s ongoing efforts to connect the Philippines’ diverse islands and support the nation’s growth.

With these developments, travelers can look forward to more seamless journeys, while local communities stand to benefit from increased tourism and economic activity. PAL’s expansion underscores its role as a key driver of progress in the Philippine aviation industry and beyond.
