Mindanao Remains a Safe Destination Amid US Travel Advisory, Says DOT
Davao City, Philippines – Despite the recent travel advisory issued by the United States government, the Department of Tourism (DOT) assures travelers that Mindanao remains a safe and welcoming destination for both local and foreign tourists.
The US Embassy in the Philippines had previously issued a security alert, warning its citizens to avoid travel to certain areas in Mindanao due to potential risks. However, DOT officials emphasized that the island’s popular tourist spots remain secure and well-protected.
Tourism Officials Stand by Mindanao’s Safety
DOT representatives highlighted that security measures in key destinations—such as Davao, Siargao, Camiguin, and Cagayan de Oro—have been strengthened to ensure the safety of visitors.
“Mindanao has so much to offer—pristine beaches, rich culture, and warm hospitality. We want to reassure tourists that travel to these areas is safe, provided they follow local guidelines and avoid restricted zones,” a DOT spokesperson said.
Local Leaders Support Tourism Growth
Local government officials and tourism stakeholders echoed the DOT’s statement, noting that Mindanao has seen a steady increase in visitors in recent years. Enhanced coordination between law enforcement and tourism agencies has been implemented to maintain peace and order in tourist-heavy regions.
Travelers Urged to Stay Informed
While the DOT maintains that most of Mindanao is safe for travel, they advise tourists to stay updated on advisories and avoid areas with active security concerns. The department also encourages visitors to explore well-established destinations where safety protocols are strictly enforced.
For those planning a trip, the DOT recommends checking official government updates and consulting accredited tour operators for the latest travel information.
Mindanao continues to welcome adventurers, culture seekers, and nature lovers with open arms—proving that, despite challenges, it remains a gem in the Philippines’ tourism landscape.
