NO Closure for Siargao

*BE SIARGAO FLASH NEWS*

Be Open, Be Siargao

NO CLOSURE FOR SIARGAO

Today, the Residual Containment Area(RCA) was officially opened in Barangay Malinao, General Luna. On this occasion, we had the confirmation that Siargao will not close in the next months. Here are some of the statement Be Siargao gathered from the officials attending this official inauguration:

Mayor Cecilia Rusillon
« The official opening is today, but first, before fully using and opening this facility, we will first work barrio by barrio, barangay to barangay and teach the practice of proper segragation of the trash to all the LGU and establishments. »

Secretary of DENR Roy Cimatu
« Congratulation to Mayor Rusillon for keeping General Luna as clean as possible. I want to personally congratulate her and the Municipality of General Luna, Surigao del Norte for immediately finding a solution to the garbage disposal issue. There is no plan of closing Siargao for now, but the DENR will implement strictly all environmental laws.»

Secretary of DILG Eduardo Año
« We don’t want Siargao to become like Boracay. We are not here to close Siargao but to make it sustainable. »

Governor Lalo Matugas
« We are buying a land in Consuelo to open a new dumpsite. The Provincial Government will donate this land to the Municipality of General Luna to make a new sanitary landfill. The tourism is bringing opportunities but also the problem of trash. It is our duty to deal with this issue. »

The mission continued to the former «Octopus Bar» to set an example regarding the respect of the legal easement of 20 meters from the highest tide. The DENR is asking all the establishments to self demolish any fixed structures within the easement.
